WEDDING PLANNING GUIDE
Let’s get all those fine little details underway!
IT’S TIME!!!
First of all, a bit thank you to choosing me to capture your special day! I am beyond excited and can’t wait to capture that timeless, luxury images you’ve always dreamed about!
But first, let’s talk about all the tips and tricks about your day!
As much as I can' make magic behind the camera and in post, the colours, the venue, the people you chose to have with you, all add up to what your images will appear. As much as having the perfect ;) photographer is, the venue, the flowers, the dresses, the hair and makeup all make up those beautiful images.
So, lets talk daydreaming about your day!
Don’t forget to daydream about your vision!
You might be the person that has dreamed about your day forever or maybe never thought you’d actually be getting married (I was there once). You may have been to other family and friends weddings together and thought “that’s not our style as beautiful as it is”. Or maybe your friends had a destination elopement and you fell in love with that idea! Or maybe you like a more Lake Como wedding vibe.
Now’s the time to dream!
Do you want an extravagant venue? Low-key? What about location? Close to home or a holiday made from it?
Take a deep breathe, close your eyes and imagine…
~ Location
~ Theme
~ Colour Pallet
~ Food
~ Dress
~ Florals
~ Table set ups
~ Veil or not
Pinterest is a great way to create a mood board for you dream wedding. Have a night where you sit with your partner and brainstorm together and find out the wants and don’t wants.
Budget
This is one of the most struggling parts to know where to place your budget in. To allocate your money is to allocate it to what’s most important to you.
Is it the venue?
The Photography / Videography?
The florals?
DJ?
ETC.
Find out what’s most important to you, research around for your favorite vendors. Most have a “starting from” to give you at least a starting price or get in contact with them and find out what’s possible. It gives you that standing point.
Research is so important as amazingly enough, all white weddings are a timeless luxury statement and can be sometimes the cheapest. Table settings, flowers tend to be cheaper with the less colour involved, most of the time.
Ask you vendors who specialize in what, sometimes there are different options with the same output for you. You want your guests well fed but don’t want “buffet” style. Go for canapes. They are delicious, everyone gets a taste of everything (if they can fit it).
Worried about having an open bar or not? Have a cocktail bar for when family photos / couple photos commence - it’s something to do for you family and friends and then later on people can pay for their own drinks. They still get a little spoilt without breaking your bank.
Location
his is going to be the backdrop of all your images, your memories are going to have the beautiful heritage building like Gabbinbar, or a beautiful open field with a grand marquee, or maybe it’s a destination elopement!
Amazingly the location is also depending on the season, as it can change the appearance of the venue drastically. Think of the season:
Spring: flowers, colour, green grass, comfortable temperatures for you and your guests, early spring some locations will charge a cheaper rate as it is a less busy season
Summer: Green grass, sometimes brown, can have smokey hazes behind, rain (embrace it, it can be magical!), can be quite hot so make sure that your location has aircon and a place for yourself and guests to escape.
Autumn: Trees are bare, brown grass, warmer tones, cooler temperature, clear skies
Winter: Brown grass, warm tones, snow (depending on location), warmer dress attire, cooler tone for colour pallet, sun sets earlier
Different season create a different feel in images, makes them unique!
Location of your photos is also equally important, if you’re the adventurous couple lets go for a walk, explore the venue this creates a greater range in your gallery. Or if you are more of a relaxed couple the location can have multiple places if they’re closer. If you are worried ask me and if I haven’t been there before we can organize a trip out there!
Florals!
The flowers on your day can arguably be one of the most important aspects of creating the mood, it can add the pop of colour in a tasteful manner or it can be in tune with the classic all white wedding.
Wildflower season for colours is Spring, it’s when all the beautiful flowers start to bloom. Different seasons will affect your florists supply, so make sure to keep in mind of the bouquet and work around the season of your dreams.
There will always be an option, there will always be a white flower at any season, or an accent of blue or pink, etc. No matter the season, but winter is definitely a season to keep in mind for your floral arrangements.
White bouquets speak a timeless finish in images, whereas wildflowers give that pop and stand out of uniqueness, or why not both? Have the white but then add forget me nots for that little splash of colour.
Some Floral Idea from Pinterest
Ceremony Location
This is a quick reminder if you haven’t thought of it already, no matter the time of year always have a hot, wet and cold weather plan.
Most venues will have a wet weather option, if you’re not sure check, if you don’t care love it! Embrace it! It’s your day and don’t let a little weather ruin it x
On a more serious note, beautiful white umbrellas are stunning and great for keeping the heat and the rain off of guests and yourselves. Cold? Get some heaters, or put little blankets on the seats for everyone of your ceremony.
